Winter Escapes at Hidden Valley
Do you ever get the feeling that the festive season is looking a bit samey? So this year, how about something completely different? For anyone who doesn’t particularly enjoy the prospect of queuing cars, invading in-laws and packed shops (who exactly does?) the complete opposite is to be found in our peaceful corner of Devon.
There’s not only something romantic and relaxing about a break in the woods around Christmas, it’s also very festive. It’s wild and more chilled out in general. Being mild in Devon, nor is it often terribly cold. And sightings of robins, deer and other wildlife needn’t always be confined to the pictures on cheesy Christmas cards.
Which option is for you? That depends not only on your budget, but your preferences and whether your idea of fun is more about living it up or pegging it down. Should you want a cosy break with maximum comfort, our holiday lodges are a cosy home from home. We have some fantastic offers in the off season too- or for a little more, just think how magical it might be to swap suburbia for a snug lodge in rural Devon on Christmas morning?
In spite of the gorgeous, secluded setting and freedom from the horrors of the last minute Christmas shopping rush, you also have a cooker, fridge and all the other components to cook up a festive dinner and chill a bottle of something special. Or if you’d like to enjoy all the spoils of Christmas without doing any of the running about, why not let us treat you to Christmas dinner at the Lakeside Restaurant? For just £35 per head, you can get the full works, with a glass of bubbly, all the trimmings and no tidying up! Places are limited to just 40 people, so do book early. Keep an eye on the site for all the information.
Winter has a beauty all of its’ own at Hidden Valley, but it is also a busy time for us as we prepare for times to come. With some selecting trimming of the bigger trees and vegetation for example, the result should be more light, clearer views and fresh growth. The groundwork starts now, before we set to work planting flowers and encouraging the gardens to flourish in the new year. Not that you have to wait till then to get a taste of the outdoors of course. Our more intrepid guests also know only too well that fresh air activities such as surfing and fishing can be excellent right through the year, not to mention cheaper and less crowded.
Besides the lodges, caravan pitches are also an option for winter, often at terrific value. But one of the biggest growth areas and less bonkers than it sounds is the art of winter camping. It’s cheap as chips, (See our low winter rates: http://www.hiddenvalleypark.com/devon-caravan-pitches/camping-in-north-devon), excellent fun and provided you’re prepared it can be comfortable rather than “character building”. With power and hot showers close to hand at Hidden Valley it becomes even more bearable. Keep an eye on the blog for more updates and winter camping tips.
