Discover Devon In Autumn

October is bringing a blaze of early autumnal sunshine to our cosy corner of Devon with the changing trees and fiery sunsets making our site more picturesque than ever. As the children return to school, Hidden Valley once again becomes a quiet refuge for those seeking tranquillity. There is space to enjoy the soft gurgle of the stream as it trickles past or to spot the many species of birds and woodland creatures that make a home here.

During October, crisp mornings give way to clear sunny afternoons - the perfect time for a stroll through the forest that surrounds us. The trees are busy bursting into every shade of amber, and the wood feels alive with energy as squirrels and birds rush to stock their winter larders. Autumn is a favourite time to get out and explore the countryside, and with our location on the edge of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we can boast some of the very best scenery right here on our doorstep.

Hidden Valley is just a stone's throw from a few of the best beaches in the county. Less than five miles away the sea crashes onto the sandy shore of Woolacombe’s dog-friendly beach. Baggy Point - the National Trust site - is close by on the headland affording exquisite views of the surrounding countryside. On clear days you can gaze out west and see Lundy Island sitting atop the horizon and the sunshine glittering on the surf. Keen-eyed visitors are likely to spot dolphins and porpoises out in the bay, or seals sunbathing on the foreshore below. The South West Coast Path carries on north-east towards Ilfracombe or south to the Taw estuary. The path heads on for hundreds of miles taking in some of the most beautiful unspoilt coastal landscape in the UK.

Autumn is a quieter time in Devon than the summer high season, prices for visitor attractions and days out are often lower and tables at eateries, bars and restaurants more available. While thankfully the queues are shorter and the beaches more secluded the weather remains pleasant. Thanks to our famous microclimate October and November are mild in Devon with average temperatures similar to those in April and May. There are still plenty of attractions and sights to see, the lovely Devon towns of Ilfracombe and Barnstable are close by offering great destinations for a relaxed day out.

During the quieter season, we offer a reduced rate across our pitches at Hidden Valley. Price start from £75 per week for a small pitch, £85 for medium, £95 for Large and £105 for premier.
